Numerous studies show a link between oral health and overall health. Especially for older adults, it is important to know the right things to do to maintain good oral health, beyond simply brushing teeth. Poor oral health can contribute to diseases in the body such as heart disease, among others.
Alcohol use impacts a growing percentage of the older adult population. It is important to understand the risks of drinking, how alcohol effects an aging body, and what resources are available to seniors. Physical changes cause the body to metabolize alcohol differently than younger individuals.
Lori Parham, state director of AARP Maine, discusses the 2018 Survey Insights from Maine’s Voters Age 50-plus, conducted in August. The survey collected the opinions of 804 registered Mainers regarding matters of importance to them, including health care and Social Security.
