Most or a very high % of the students in Skowhegan have parents , grand and even great grand parents that were a part of the Skowhegan student body known as Skowhegan Indians.The town name of Skowhegan is Indian and that should have been changed first. Or in truth neither as it is just the perception Dana and a few of his followers that it is degrading and racist. Skowhegan ‘s name has always meant to show pride of it’s Indian heritage just as it’s students have being referred to as the Skowhegan Indians. I have not lived their for a long time and finished school in Gardiner. But will for what ever time i have left think of student of Skowhegan as Indians. I still have friends that live there my older sisters graduated from there. Skowhegan Indians for eternity.
We have been a name only, no mascot. Always will be Skowhegan Indians. Many people in the community support Todd Smith.
